How to make an extra mandatory

How to mark an extra as mandatory in Amenitiz, so it's automatically added to every booking that matches the linked accommodations and rate plans — for charges like cleaning fees, resort fees, or city tax.

Overview

A mandatory extra is automatically added to every booking that matches the accommodations and rate plans you've linked. Use this for charges every guest must pay, like cleaning fees, resort fees, or a city tax.

This article answers: "How do I make sure a specific extra is applied to every booking, and what does the guest see?"

📌 Note

If you haven't created the extra yet, start with How to create a new extra first, then come back here to make it mandatory.

Step-by-step instructions

  1. Navigate to Extra Charges

    • Go to Booking Engine → Extra Charges in the left-hand sidebar.

  2. Open the extra

    • Click Edit extra on the extra you want to make mandatory, or click Add a new extra to create one from scratch.

  3. Turn on Apply automatically

    • Set Apply automatically to Yes.

  4. Confirm Availability is scoped correctly

    • Under Availability, confirm the extra is linked to the right accommodations and rate plans — the mandatory extra will only be applied to bookings that match.

  5. Save

    • Click Save to apply the change.

What guests see on the booking engine

Mandatory extras appear above the optional extras during the booking process and can't be unchecked — the fee is automatically included in the total price.

What you see when adding a reservation manually

When you create a reservation manually from your Amenitiz extranet, the mandatory extra is added by default — but you can keep or remove it on a case-by-case basis as you build the booking. This is useful for direct bookings where a guest is exempt from a particular fee.

FAQs

Will mandatory extras be added to bookings from Booking.com or other OTAs?

No. Extras created in Amenitiz only apply to bookings made through your Amenitiz booking engine. To charge a mandatory fee on OTA bookings, you need to configure it directly in the OTA's extranet.

Can I make an extra mandatory only for certain rooms or rate plans?

Yes. Under Availability, restrict the extra to the specific accommodations or rate plans where it should apply. The mandatory fee will only be added to bookings that match — guests booking other rooms or rate plans won't see it.

What happens if I make an existing optional extra mandatory?

The change only affects new bookings. Existing reservations keep whatever extras they already had — the mandatory toggle isn't applied retroactively.

Can I have a mandatory extra that only applies on certain days of the stay?

Yes. Use the Applied to setting to choose whether the mandatory extra is charged on the Arrival day, the Departure day, or Every day of the stay. Use Except to exclude specific days.
