How to change the footer or header menu of your website

Edit, reorder or remove items in the header and footer menus from Website → Menus. Each menu is separate, so you can put the same link in both. Titles are translatable per language.

Overview

You can customise both the header (top of every page) and footer (bottom of every page) menus of your website. This article covers editing existing menu items, reordering them, and removing what you no longer want.

To add a new page or link to a menu, see how to add a new page to the menu of your website.

Before you start

  • You need the Can edit the website permission to manage menus.

  • The same menu item can live on both the header and the footer if you want to give it extra visibility — they're configured as two separate menus, so you can add the item to each.

  • Menu item titles are translatable per language. Update the title in each activated language so the link reads correctly for every visitor.

Step-by-step instructions

  1. Go to WebsiteMenus in the sidebar. You'll see the list of menus — typically a header menu and a footer menu.

  2. On the menu you want to change, click the three dots and choose Edit a menu. You're taken to the list of items in that menu.

  3. For each item you want to update, click the three dots next to it and pick:

    • Edit menu item — change the title and the link the item points to. Update the title in every activated language. Click Add to confirm.

    • Remove menu item — deletes the item from the menu. Visitors won't see it anymore.

  4. To reorder items, grab one with your mouse and drag it to the new position in the list.

  5. Click Save to publish the changes to your live website.

FAQs

Can I have the same link in both the header and the footer?

Yes. Header and footer are separate menus, so you can add the same item to both. Useful for high-priority links you want visible no matter where the visitor scrolls.

How do I add a brand-new link to the menu?

Use the Add menu item button at the bottom of the menu editor. See how to add a new page to the menu of your website for the full walkthrough — that article also covers linking to an internal page versus an external URL.

I changed the order of items but my site still shows the old order — why?

Make sure you clicked Save after dragging. Reordering only saves when you confirm the change at the bottom of the menu editor.

Can I translate the menu item titles?

Yes — when editing a menu item, set the title in every activated language. The title shown to a visitor matches the language they're browsing your site in.

I deleted a menu item by mistake — can I undo?

There's no undo, but you can recreate the item via Add menu item with the same title and link. The page itself isn't deleted — only the menu link is.
