This article explains how to set up and apply VAT (Value Added Tax) in Amenitiz—so it appears correctly on your invoices and estimates.
Step-by-step guide
1. Set VAT for your room types
To ensure VAT is automatically applied to room bookings, set a VAT rate directly in each room type configuration.
- Go to Admin Rooms — This is where your room types are listed.
- Click “Edit” on a room type — Open the editor for the selected room.
- Enter your VAT rate — You'll find the VAT field beside the base price.
📌 Note
Each room type must be configured individually if you want VAT applied consistently across your bookings.👉 Example
If you set a room price at €110 with a 10% VAT rate, Amenitiz will calculate €10 as VAT and €100 as the net amount. This is because the price you enter is considered VAT-inclusive.
2. Set VAT for your extra charges
VAT can also be applied to additional charges, like breakfasts or late check-outs.
- Go to Booking Engine > Extra Charges.
- Click Edit on the extra item you want to modify.
- Scroll to the bottom and enter your VAT rate.
💡 Tip
Setting VAT at the item level ensures your invoices are always compliant without needing manual edits.
3. Apply VAT to custom charges
For one-off charges added manually to an invoice or estimate, you can define a VAT rate using a free field.
- Open your invoice or estimate draft
- Add a free field line and enter the charge details
- Select a VAT rate from the dropdown
📌 Note
There is no central VAT settings page in Amenitiz. VAT must be defined per item—rooms, extras, or invoice lines—depending on your needs.
4. Review and finalise your invoice
Before creating an invoice, always double-check that VAT is correctly applied where needed.
- Make sure the VAT amounts display next to each item
- Preview the invoice to confirm totals
⚠️ Warning
Ensure that VAT settings in Amenitiz and your OTA extranets are aligned, as differences may lead to discrepancies in pricing or how VAT is displayed to guests.
FAQs
What VAT rate should I use?
This depends on your country’s tax regulations. If unsure, consult your local accountant or tax advisor to ensure compliance.
Can I apply different VAT rates to different items?
Yes! Each item—room, extra, or free field—can have its own VAT rate set independently.
Why isn’t VAT showing up on my invoice?
